Genealogist Maureen O'Brien has provided the following information.

William Robert Cockle was born in Burlington, Vermont, on March 26, 1816.

• His father, Robert Cockle, was born in Cambridge, England in 1760, and emigrated to America. He married Mary Anne Cooper in September 1792 in Plattsburgh, New York. They had nine children in 18 years. He died on March 2, 1832, in Burlington, Vermont, at the age of 72.

Phoebe Harris was born in Milan, New Hampshire, on July 2, 1822.

• Phoebe's ancestor Robert Harris was born in Gloucester, England, in 1618. Gloucester is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Robert settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts, now a neighborhood within Boston. It was one of the first towns founded in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630.
• Phoebe's ancestors John and Mary Ravens Coolidge emigrated to America:
  • John Coolidge was born in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1604, and emigrated to America around 1630-1635. He became the first First Selectman of Watertown, Massachusetts. He was also the ancestor of President Calvin Coolidge, who served as the 30th president of the United States from 1923 to 1929.
  • Mary Ravens was born Wattisfield, Suffolk, England, in 1602.
• Phoebe's ancestors Henry and Anna Goldstone Bright emigrated to America:
  • Henry Bright was born in St. Edmund's, Suffolk, England, in 1602.
  • Anna Goldstone was born Skerth, Wickham, England, in 1615.
  Their daughter Mary Bright married Nathaniel Cooldge, son of John and Mary Ravens Coolidge above.
• Phoebe's ancestor John Durgin was born in the county of Devon, England, in 1561.The city of Exeter is the county town. He emigrated to Durham, New Hampshire, originally called Oyster River Plantation. It was first settled by Europeans in 1635 when pioneers who traveled up the Piscataqua River and across Little Bay chose to settle at the falls of the Oyster River. At the time, the land that is now New Hampshire belonged to Massachusetts.
• Phoebe's ancestors Francis Matthews and Thomasine Channon were born in Ottery St Mary, Devon, England, in 1598 and 1600. The town is 10 miles east of Exeter and takes its name from the River Otter (named after the animal) on which it stands. They emigrated to Durham, New Hampshire, around the same time as John Durgin above.
• Phoebe's ancestor Michael Pinder was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, in 1552. Salisbury is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, England, 85 miles southwest of London. His son Henry Pinder was born in Coleby, Lincolnshire, England, in 1578. His son John Pinder was born in Cambridge, England, in 1627. John settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts, founded in 1630 by John Winthrop the Younger, son of John Winthrop, one of the founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

William and Phoebe were married in Coos, New Hampshire, in 1841. William was a shoemaker. They lived in Huntington and Waterbury, Vermont, They had 12 children from 1842 to 1867.

Their fourth child was Jane E Cockle, born in Huntington, Vermont, on March 21, 1851. She married Benjamin Francois Duprey in New Haven, Vermont, on December 3, 1872. Their only child Jennie Mae Duprey was born in New Haven, Vermont, on February 7, 1874. Jane Cockle Duprey died in New Haven, Vermont, on December 13, 1874, ten days after Jennie was born. William Cockle died on November 19, 1890, in Williston, Vermont. Phoebe died on April 8, 1895, in Starksboro, Vermont. They are buried at Hinesburg Village Cemetery: Find A Grave.
